I bought a second-hand Ford for just £300… I’ll sell it for five times that after 3 budget DIY tweaks

A CAR dealer who bought a used Ford for just £300 has revealed that he will sell it for five times that after making 3 easy tweaks.

Matt Goodwin from High Peak Autos only had to spend £180 on top of the purchase price to get the car in showroom condition.

Matt, who runs a dealership in Stockport, Greater Manchester, bought a 19-year-old Ford Mondeo as his latest project.

He said: "There's nothing wrong with a Mondeo really.

"They're a good workhorse, especially the estates.

"I seem to remember somebody in the Labour Party during the Tony Blair era...described 'Mr average man on the street' as "Mondeo Man".

"It's kind of true, isn't it? It's your typical car."

The Mondeo he snapped up was a gold-coloured gem of a motor with just over 80,000 miles on the clock - and only cost £300.

A quick walkaround revealed it to be a little rough around the edges, but generally in top-notch form, with a "ridiculous" boot size and well maintained tyres.

Inside, the upholstered seats were "brand new"; under a set of seat covers and it even had electric windows, which were an optional extra at the time of release.

Matt added: "Apart from being a bit grubby it's all good.

"I was mocking gold Mondeo men, but it's actually alright.

"I don't see why I couldn't sell this.

"Pre-Covid this would have been a £1,500 car perhaps.

"I think this is a £1,995 car...and I think it'll sell quite quickly."

Before selling up, all Matt had to do was make use of a few easy DIY hacks.

Once the car had gone through an MOT, had an oil filter change and some fresh oil and been given new number plates, it was ready for the showroom.

While Matt went to a mechanic for these, everything but the MOT could be done for cheap at home.

All in all, he paid just £480 to buy the car and prepare it for sale, giving him an anticipated profit of just over £1,500.

It comes after one inventive motorist transformed their tiny car into a train using cheap parts from Amazon, only for it to go disastrously wrong.
