A LEGENDARY fast Ford that's been kept in storage for a number of years has sold for an eye-watering price.
A stunning Ford Escort RS Cosworth Luxury that rolled off the production line in 1995 was recently sold by KGF Classic Cars after being listed for £129,995.

The sporty Escort, which is finished in a striking Diamond White, comes with just 408 miles on the clock - having spent some 16 years off the road.
In fact, according to the , the Escort is in "astonishing" condition and comes complete with "labels, stickers, tags and paint dabs visible just as it left the factory".
The KGF history file states that the iconic motor was built in December 1995 at the Rheine Assembly Plant, Germany, and was registered new on 22 January 1997.
It was then purchased in a car auction by Rod Allen Cars and, after covering just 376 miles, kept in the rear of the showroom surrounded by wall mirrors until 2006, when it was sold for £32,995 to a Ford enthusiast.

Then it was wrapped in a protective film and placed in storage until it was purchased by KGF Classic Cars in November 2023.
It has since been marked as 'sold' by KGF on their website, suggesting it's found a new home.

The standout feature of the Escort is undoubtedly its Cosworth 2.0-litre 16v turbocharged engine which produces 220 bhp - capable of reaching 60 mph in 5.7 secs and a top speed of 140 mph.
The KGF listing reveals that the Escort RS Cosworth "was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort" that was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship.

Indeed, the Escort RS Cosworth competed in the WRC from 1993 until 1998 - replacing the Sierra RS Cosworth - and in that time was driven by the likes of Miki Biasion, Carlos Sainz Snr and even current FIA chief Mohammed Bin Sulayem.

It was available as a road car from 1992 until 1996 in limited numbers, with only 7,145 examples being produced - with this example being one of the very last.
The listing notes that the Diamond White finish can be described as "impeccable thanks to the ultra-low mileage and indoor storage."
This comes after a Ford Cosworth RS500 built in 1986 and with just 9,180 miles on the clock was sold for a figure "very close" to the £350,000 asking price.
The figure is the second-highest sum paid for a Cosworth at auction, after one sold for £596,520 last year.
Only 52 "Cossies" were ever made in the moonstone blue colour sported by the car sold in Peterborough.
Elsewhere, a rare 90s sports car that Richard Hammond said "is a classic waiting in the wings" can be bought for less than £7,000.
