Ford CEO Jim Farley said the Mustang is "by far" the world's best-selling coupe - a two-door passenger motor.

But he said any new versions would need to have the "performance and attitude"; of current makes.

Farley said: “We will never build a Mustang that isn’t a Mustang.

“For instance, there will never be room for a small, two-row Ford SUV with a Mustang badge stuck on it.

"But could we do other Mustang body forms – a four-door or whatever?

"I believe we could, as long as these models have all the performance and attitude of the original.”

Farley said the company plans to keep producing updated versions of its classic cars and surprising people.

In 2022 an updated version of the Mustang was produced with a V8 engine.

The muscle car was treated to a refreshed look with upgraded engines and new tech inside and out.

Brits were offered a choice between a coupe or a convertible and manual or automatic gearboxes.

History of the Ford Mustang

THE Ford Mustang first landed in the 1960s when vice president of the company envisioned a sporty youth-targeted motor.

It was developed quickly and on a tight budget, deputing for the first time in 1964.

Ford planned for 100,000 sales in the first year - but the wildly popular car sold 22,000 units on the first day alone.

It was designed as an affordable, but performance based car.

The Ford Mustang range had launched forward an entire genre of vehicles - known as "Pony Cars".

Over the years the classic car got much bigger and bulkier.

In the summer of 2018, Ford built its 10 millionth model of the car.

There have been different versions from almost every generation.
