2017 Nissan Juke Gripz concept unveiled
First pictures from Frankfurt Motor Show
LET me tell you a secret. This is the next NISSAN JUKE.
It was officially unveiled as the Gripz Concept, a radical 2+2-seat sports crossover, in Frankfurt.
But Sunderland will be churning out something very similar in 2017.
A Nissan insider told me: “The real thing won’t be as sporty but it needs to be radical to last until 2024. We need to push the envelope.”
I like it. I like the sharp cut lines and boomerang-shaped lights and front door edges. Look closely and you’ll notice a pair of rear-hinged half doors hidden at the back.
The orange/matt-black paint is a nod to the iconic 240Z rally car from the 1970s and those monster 22in carbon wheels were inspired by racing bicycles.
Even the steering wheel matches the red/black detailing on the sidewalls. Cool.
Of course most Jukes will continue to be petrol powered. But this show car is a quiet petrol/electric hybrid using the same electric motor as the Nissan Leaf, also made in Sunderland. So it’s future proof too.
