green, clean and silent van

We review the Kangoo Van ZE from price to economy and all its features

ELECTRIC power is the perfect solution for van drivers delivering in town or city.

And the Kangoo ZE is the perfect example of a green, clean and silent van that works.

Potential electric car buyers are put off by the restricted mileage but the Kangoo ZE’s range of between 106 and 125 miles is ideal for vehicles covering a daily distance of less than 62 miles.

Green, clean, and silent ... Kangoo Van ZE

Inside the van has a 2.5 metres load area capable of taking a euro pallet, the same size as the diesel version.

On the road the Kangoo has to be just about the most calming van to drive.

The petrol/diesel Kangoo van is already a big sales success

It’s an automatic, silent, the steering is light and precise, plus it accelerates rapidly enough to even satisfy white van man. The only real difference is an “econometer” on the dash that indicates how much charge remains and how economically you are driving.

There is also an eco button which restricts the 44kw electric motor’s performance but boosts the van’s mileage by up to ten per cent.

The petrol/diesel Kangoo van is already a big sales success and the ZE version is already attracting orders.

On sale this month, this model is the ideal choice for business users wanting to show their green credentials.

Prices start at £16,990, excluding VAT, with a £60-a-month battery leasing charge, while the diesel version is £12,200.

Renault argue that a diesel doing an average 40,000 miles over four years will have a fuel bill around £5,500, while the cost of electricity for the ZE over the same period will be just £1,200.

Plus you pay no city congestion charge with the zero-emission Kangoo – that would save London buyers £9,400 over four years.

Ironically it could be that the Kangoo Van is the first electric vehicle that will make a serious breakthrough.
