Major sportscar brand unveils its ‘most powerful road model yet’ set to rival popular £190k Tesla motor

The car roared around Germany's Nürburgring in just over seven minutes last year

PORSCHE has unveiled an all-electric super car that could rival a £190,000 Tesla model.

The sparkling new Taycan Turbo GT has rolled off the production line and is being heralded the brand's most powerful model yet.

It is the first electric car from Porsche's GT division and is one of the fastest four-door road cars to hit the market.

The German car giant promises the Taycan will be “the most dynamic Taycan of all time” - and its most powerful Porsche yet.

The model roared around Germany's fearsome 14-mile Nürburgring track in just seven minutes and 7.55 seconds last year - smashing the lap record for EVs.

Currently, the most powerful version of the Taycan is the Turbo S, capable of 0-62mph in just 2.4 seconds.

That model sped over the finish line at Nürburgring 26 seconds slower than the now released Turbo GT.

The new Taycan is said to produce more than 1,093bhp and will be a direct challenger to the 1,006bhp Tesla Model S Plaid.

Taking inspiration from the Porsche 99X Formula E car, the Turbo GT is offering 67bhp more than other Taycans.

Other features of the upcoming super-car include Porsche's specially calibrated Active Ride suspension which offers “an almost perfect connection to the road”.

Its speed and performance is also bolstered by a 75kg reduction in mass compared with the Taycan Turbo S.

Its lighter mass has been achieved through extensive use of carbonfibre, lightweight forged wheels and the removal of the soft-closing boot mechanism.

The optional Weissach package takes it a huge step further by “eliminating all equipment not required for track driving”.

Other changes include the removal of rear seats, rear speakers, charge ports, floor and boot mats and some of the interior sound insulation material.
