A HUGE dealership which opened in 1966 is getting a new lease of life as a major EV maker moves in.

LSH Auto, known for its Mercedes-Benz showrooms across the Midlands and north west, is now transforming its Tamworth site into two state-of-the-art experiences.

LSH Auto was set up in 1966 and the existing showroom opened in the 1980s.

Car lovers will be thrilled to hear a new showroom will include BYD, which stands for Build Your Dreams, one of China’s largest EV companies.

BYD started out in 1995 making electric batteries but now builds its own electric cars through BYD Auto.

The company have started branching out into van, truck, bus and even rail sectors.

BYD Auto was rolled out across Europe last year in Belgium, Denmark, Luxenbourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.

It has now made its way to the UK, although there are only a few select showrooms in Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.

And, there are currently three BYD models on sale in the UK.

The cheapest is the Dolphin, which starts at just over £30,000, while the Atto 3 costs from about £37,000, and the Seal is anywhere from £45,000.

LHS has revealed there will be charger point and valet bays, as well as six out of 11 new ramps in their workshop to accommodate EVs.

This will offer clients the opportunity to service their electric vehicles and have repair work done.

It is expected the development will take a year to complete, but business will continue as usual.

A second showroom will sell their classic Mercedes-Benz models.

Managing director Vaughan Blackman told : "We’re really pleased to be investing in our Tamworth facilities, which have a long-standing history as a Mercedes-Benz showroom and a very loyal customer base.

"The new showrooms will reflect our high standards and commitment to our customers."

He added: "BYD is the latest brand to join LSH Auto UK. It is a multi-national high-tech company devoted to technological innovations in pursuit of a greener world.

"The quality of its new passenger cars is undeniable, and we’re excited to be introducing the new range to our customers."

Mark Hickman, dealer principal at Mercedes-Benz of Tamworth and BYD Tamworth, added: "We want to give our customers more choice and allow them to find the right car to purchase in a relaxed, no-pressure environment that has been tailor-made to give them the best experience."

It comes as a major firm behind the world's fastest car is also set to launch a new state-of-the-art showroom.

Industry giant Koenigsegg is now opening a new flagship dealership in the heart of London, on Kensington High Street.

Fans will be thrilled to see luxury car models from a variety of ranges, as execs dub the opening a "significant milestone" in the Swedish manufacturer's global market.

It comes as the Koenigsegg Regera impressed car enthusiasts, speeding from 0 to 249mph and back to zero in less than 30 seconds.

The £2.1million motor is one of the most sought-after in the world, after just 80 units were made during its production between March 2016-2021.

The plug-in hybrid sports car was designed to be a more practical and luxurious alternative to the brand's regular lightweight lineup.

And, another major car brand is reportedly set to produce a £20,000 EV set to debut in the UK in the next two years.

The new motor would be one of the cheapest all-electric options on the market.

MG has, according to , indicated that it is planning to launch its latest city car as part of a move to expand the lower end of its EV lineup.
