‘Gearing up for big speed’ – supercar brand looks to break Bugatti record with aim to reach over 300mph in 2024
A SUPERCAR brand has revealed their goal for 2024 is to top 300mph with their latest motor.
American maker Hennessey have said they plan to send their stunning Venom F5 model out to hit the mythical milestone - and that it could hit up to 328mph.
Hennessey, whose tag-line is "making fast cars faster", have previous when it comes to reaching eye-watering speeds.
They previously held the record for the world’s fastest car back in 2014, when their Venom GT supercar hit 270.49mph at the Kennedy Space Center to bag the gong for the top speed in a single direction.
So far, the 300mph-mark has only ever been reached by Bugatti, who smashed through the barrier back in 2019 when British racing driver Andy Wallace drove a Chiron Super Sport to a recorded 304.77mph at Ehra-Lessien.
Now it seems Hennessey are eyeing the Italian icon's nippy accomplishment - with their boss even hinting at some friendly rivalry between the two, as well Swedish firm Koenigsegg.

As reported by , their founder and namesake John Hennessey said: “I love that Koenigsegg is gearing up for big speed, I hope that Bugatti joins the party too.
"It’s rivalries like this that fuel our passion, and drive us to go faster, innovate more, and push harder."
The Venom F5, which Hennessey unveiled back in 2017 with every intention to break speed records, boasts a price-tag of $1.6 million, or roughly £1.2m, with only 24 built by the brand.
John added: “Our hypercar has a simulated theoretical top speed of 328mph - but we’re certainly not chasing that number.

"Breaking 300mph in two directions is this year’s goal, while hitting 500kmh (310.8mph) inone direction would be the ultimate way of celebrating the internal combustion engine.”
Hennessey predicts the car can accelerate from 0 to 186 mph in a time of under 10 seconds, as well as hitting 0 to 249 mph in under 20 seconds.
Last year the world’s fastest EV broke the Guinness World Record with an eye-watering speed while driving in reverse.
At a slightly slower speed, a student picked up a new world record by hitting over 90mph on a toy car.
