Strong and economical

We review the Dacia Duster from price to economy and all its features

DACIA is dusting down the Duster and making it even better value.

All 2015 models, including the cheapest 1.6-litre Access at £9,495, have been tickled inside and out and get new seats, new front grille and Duster-branded roof bars.

But there's been NO increase in price.

Dacia is the budget brand owned by Renault and it has proved a real winner with cash conscious Brits since arriving here in 2012.

Sales are up 69.8 per cent - 15,060 from January to August this year compared to 8,872 in the same period last year - and there is no sign of slowing.

There's a zero per cent finance deal on a Duster right now too, so you can bag one from £184 a month with £2,848 deposit.

Improvements... The SUV has been tweaked but the price remains the same

I've just tested the top-end £15,495 Duster Laureate, which has the same 1.5-litre turbodiesel I had in my 7-seat Renault Grand Scenic but with four wheel drive.

Granted, it's not going to pull up any trees but it's a strong engine and cheap to run with around 50mpg. There's nothing fancy inside - it's just a decent-sized, comfy SUV with easy access that will do a job for you.

The Duster line-up, voted Top Gear's Bargain of the Year, has two and four-wheel-drive models based on three trim levels - Access, Ambiance and Laureate.

Winner... The Duster scooped Top Gear's Bargain of the Year award - this is how the 2015 model looks

And there's a whole shopping list of options like 7in touchscreen satnav (£300) and rear parking sensors.

There's only two engine choices, though, the diesel and a 1.6-litre 16v petrol, which is a bit limiting. They need a 2-litre turbodiesel.

Interior... Added extras include the cool touchscreen sat nav
