‘It manages itself’, cries homeowner after parking space side hustle makes him £6K – and he doesn’t have to do anything

A SAVVY homeowner’s side hustle has earned him a whopping £6,000 - and he doesn't even have to do anything.

Gary Jones, 52, has a designated parking space outside his Brighton flat but doesn’t drive, so he decided to try renting it out for £21 a day.

Gary was YourParkingSpace's highest earner for 2023 when he earned £6,462.

He started his side hustle in 2021 and now regrets the four years it sat empty.

Married Gary, a director at a language school, said: "I was so surprised how much it made last year."

He revealed he's now considering whether to buy up the space next to it too.

He added: "Now, If I were to ever move to a new place I’d look for one with a parking space even though I don’t drive."

Gary said he always knew how difficult it was to park in central Brighton, but it had never bothered him personally.

Once his hustle started making money, he invested a "few hundred pounds" installing a bollard and a lock box.

Apart from the odd bit of weeding and the occasional phone call from confused customers struggling to find the parking spot, the business manages itself.

The space, which is tucked safely down a one-way road, is sometimes rented by  staying overnight at hotels without parking.

Gary claims he goes the extra mile by texting his customers to check they arrived safely.

Gary revealed most of his customers come from word-of-mouth so he doesn't even have to pay for advertising.

Many are local tradesmen needing somewhere to leave the van as they work on customer's homes nearby.

He added: "If you come for a weekend and the service is good, they recommend it to their family and friends."

It comes after a hard-working mum turned her passion for second-hand clothing into a thriving business.

And this hustler managed to make almost £400 in 11 days, just from walking dogs.
