A MAJOR car brand is set to unveil its first ever electric vehicle.

The Lancia Ypsilon Limited Edition Cassina will hit the market in just a few days, but only less than 2,000 vehicles will be made.

The hatchback electric car will be fully introduced on February 14 at Lancia's headquarters in Milan.

Only 1906 examples will be produced in a tribute to the Italian brand's founding year, reports.

Lancia partnered with Italian furniture maker Cassina to make the initial edition of the Ypsilon as the brand designed the car's interior and was in charge of its exterior colour.

The Ypsilon Limited Edition Cassina is said to "represent the maximum expression of design, comfort and well-being on board a Lancia", the manufacturer said.

The EV will offer a range of 250 miles, but a price tag is yet to be revealed.

Those wanting to get their hands on the exclusive motor need to register their interest through an online portal and joining the brand's One of 1906 campaign.

The new supermini's design seems to have gotten inspiration from the Pura HPE concept shown last spring.

A video of the small EV displays a silhouette similar to the Peugeot e-208, fresh new Y-shaped diamond-cut alloy wheels, daytime running lights similar to the Pura HPE concept, LED headlights positioned beneath, and a Lancia badge mounted on the C-pillar.

At the back, newly featured rounder taillights are said to be inspired by the 1970s Stratos rally vehicle and sit next to Lancia's revamped bumper-width logo, both of which emerge from the rear windscreen to add a little extra pop.

Inside, the new Lancia has ribbed velvet seats with a cannelloni motif, a small table extending from the dashboard, as well as a flat-bottomed steering wheel trimmed in leather and black plastic.

It also has Stellantis's new Sound Air Light Augmentation (Sala) infotainment system.

This features completely adjustable widgets that are displayed on two basic screens as standard.

The homepage acts as a centralised control panel that allows the driver to pick how they wish to interface with the car, whether by tapping a button or by speaking.

It comes after the Italian motors maker confirmed an upcoming revitalisation as it will release an all-new range of models from 2024.

Lancia was once considered one of the world's most exciting car companies, having become a cultural icon largely thanks to its standing in the World Rally Championship.

Indeed, the brand still holds the record for the most constructors titles in the WRC with 10 overall.

The brand aiming is now aiming for a high design philosophy that will hopefully mirror its heyday with three new models - one of them now launched as the new Ypsilon.
