We review the Mini Clubman from price to economy and all its features

HOW many double beds can you fit in a Mini?

Answer: Two. Maybe even three at a push. I'm serious.

The new not-so Mini Clubman — now with SIX doors — swallowed two 7ft beds WITH MATRESSES in my Ikea test.

And that was with a rear seat still upright.

Yet it still drives like a Mini.

The new Clubman is the largest-ever Mini.

It has been stretched to 4.2metres, almost 30cm longer than the old Clubman, and 43cm longer than the baby Mini hatch.

So it's the same size as a VW Golf, with a similar boot - 360 litres seats up, 1,250 litres seats down.

Or in the real world — a serious day's shopping.

Prices start at £19,995 for the 1.5-litre petrol turbo (0-62mph in 9.1 seconds and 55.4mpg) but I tested the £22,265 Cooper D Cl b Clubman, with the new 2-litre diesel turbo.

The official stats say 0-62 in 8.6, 68.9mpg and £30 road tax (CO2 115g/km).

It's very impressive. Much quicker than my mate's 64-reg Countryman Cooper SD — and much better on juice.

I don't drive like a vicar but still managed 54mpg.

My mate does drive like a vicar and struggles to nudge 50mpg.

What's it like inside?

Like a mini Bentley. The plush blue quilted leather seats in my test car were top-drawer. Mini is clearly pushing upmarket.
