We review the Jaguar SVR from price to economy and all its features

Jaguar joins 200mph club

WHAT is more confusing than a bowl of Alphabetti spaghetti?

Answer: Jaguar Land Rover’s new tuning arm.

It’s called SVO — Special Vehicle Operations — but you won’t see that badge on the back of a fancy motor. No, no. Instead you’ll see: SVR for performance cars.

SVAutobiography, or SVA, for ultimate luxury.

And SVX for extreme off-roaders. Think Camel Trophy, Dakar, raised ride height and snorkels.

Well, here’s another acronym for JLR . . . KISS.

Keep It Simple Stupid.

The reason AMG is so iconic is because it is simple. AMG = monster Merc.

The same goes for M and BMW. M = bad-ass Beemer.

Whatever the flavour.

So maybe JLR is trying too hard with SVO, SVR, SVA and SVX. Or, at the very least, overwatering a tuning division less than two years old. SVwho are ya?

Having said all that, the first Jag to wear the SVR badge is deliciously simple.

Take a brilliant but standard F-Type R AWD, make it lighter, faster, stiffer, add an active rear wing, carbon roof, wider tyres and titanium exhaust and you have the first 200mph Jag.

It is epic.

The supercharged 5- litre V8 bangs out 575hp — up 25hp — and slashes the 0-60mph sprint to 3.5 secs — that’s four tenths quicker.

But anyone can go fast in a straight line.

The F-Type SVR also corners quicker, rides better and sounds like a blaze at an ammo factory.

It makes the average driver feel like a superhero. And the carbon ceramic brakes are your insurance policy.

The only snag is the £110,000 price tag, which means at least a ten-year wait before I could possibly afford one second hand.

But the final word goes to SVO boss John Edwards, in charge of 1,200 staff at Coventry. His team has already shifted 2,500 Range Rover Sport SVRs and he expects to double SVO sales by 2020.

He said: “We do special things. We push the boundaries and produce halo cars. I’m running a dream factory.”

Well, I have a special KISS for you too, Mr John. A big wet, sloppy one followed by a long, awkward cuddle. Top job.

VERDICT: Class. I didn’t want to give it back.
