‘Best DIY camper I’ve seen’ cry fans as van-lifer shows off funky home on wheels with 70s-style interior & hidden shower

VAN fans have been left stunned by the "best DIY camper" ever - a funky home on wheels featuring a psychedelic '70s interior and hidden shower.

Kirby Winson, who has been building his own motorhomes since 2017, took just two months to completely transform a Mercedes Sprinter into a plush pad.

On the outside, it looks like a pretty average grey panel van.

The magic starts when you step through the sliding doors to discover the "funky, weird and groovy" interior.

Kirby, who also claims to be able to solve a Rubik's Cube in under a minute, said he took inspiration from his love for 1960s and '70s psychedelic music.

The orange mood lighting bathes the cabin in a warm glow, complemented by lava lamps and a spinning disco ball.

Power is provided by a "solar sail", a vast pane of solar panels that folds up from the van's roof to face the Sun.

Elsewhere, the van boasts a large kitchen worktop and sink unit a wardrobe and three seating units, two of which fold together into a double bed.

One has a projector screen built into the armrest for cosy movie nights.

The third doubles as a corner sofa and storage space, hiding a fridge/freezer underneath the plush cushions.

Even the decoration fits the "groovy" theme, with replicas of the famous melting clocks painted by Salvador Dali in 1931, as well as a host of scrambled Rubik's Cubes.

A master of making use of space, Kirby managed to hide a "cassette-style" chemical loo, which slides out from under the sink.

The numerous windows use smart glass, allowing them to be frosted up at the push of a button.

This gives Kirby some privacy while also allowing him the option of a panoramic view to catch the best sunsets on his travels.

And cold weather is not a problem, with an in-built heater and underfloor heating.

Social media commenters loved Kirby's vibe.

One wrote: "This may be the best van builder I’ve ever seen.

"This guy has next-level ideas."

Another added: "I am so jealous of people whose brains work like that."

It comes after a mum revealed how she is converting a double-decker bus into a home for her and her toddler.
