Iconic Delorean left in barn for over 20 years found filthy & full of MICE before stunning restoration

The legendary car looked good as new after a few simple cleaning steps

AN ICONIC DMC Delorean that became mice-infested after being left to gather dust in a barn for more than 20 years has been restored to its former glory.

Auto enthusiasts and YouTubers Mike McElhattan and Kevin Thomas found the original 1981 Delorean abandoned in a barn in Wisconsin.

The car, which gained worldwide fame after the same model was featured in the Back to the Future films, was discovered with a nest of mice living in its rear interor.

Upon arriving to the rundown barn, Mike and Kevin captured footage showing dozens of tiny mice running across the car and burrowing in its compartments.

Mike and Kevin, who run YouTube channel Delorean Nation, said they would be trying something "a little bit out of the ordinary" to breathe new life back into the dusty car.

Kevin said: "We're going to attempt to wash this car one half at a time so we can do a comparison from the filthy side to the all cleaned up side."

The pair then taped half of the car off with plastic before applying Ammo foam paint cleanser.

The professional grade cleaning product created a foamy liquid before a high-pressure hose was used.

The surprisingly simple process instantly wiped away two decades worth of grime, revealing the shiny silver bonnet underneath.

Mike said: "We can see some staining, and outlines of mould and dirt. On a Delorean you don't want to put a lot of pressure on the hood because there's fibreglass under there."

To buff the car, Mike and Kevin used a microfibre cloth to achieve maximum shine.

Mike said: "We had a few spots on there that we were worried about, especially the T-panel that had some bird droppings on it and actually even some rust starting to form, but that's 99 per cent gone."

An industrial strength brush was then used on the Delorean's tires and hub caps, making them look good as new.

Kevin and Mike took several compartments of the hood off and continued to use the power hose to get rid of grease and grime that was trapped under the bonnet, where they even found dozens of acorns wedged under the hood.

After just a few hours' work, the iconic car, which had clocked 977 miles, looked brand new.

The successful restoration comes after an iconic Ford Capri that was meticulously restored became available for bargain price at auction.

Meanwhile, an incredibly rare MK1 Ford Escort that was left to rot for over 16 years in a garden was also brought back to its former glory.
