BRIGHT SPARK

I never thought I’d bag a reliable EV for under £10k but my car is a belter – you can’t even get a Ford Fiesta so cheap

One YouTuber thinks he's found a brilliant EV that is far better priced than the petrol version

ELECTRIC vehicles have long been more expensive than their petrol counterparts, but that could now be over.

One YouTuber set himself the challenge of buying a fully electric car less than two years old and for no more than £10,000.

EVs have long been more expensive on the second-hand market so Andy Rogerson attempted the challenge on his Electric Vehicle Man channel.

Rogerson found a second-hand 2021 SEAT Mii for £10,200, just missing out on his target for the challenge.

Despite shooting over his limit, Rogerson loved the Mii and in the 15-minute long video he sings the small car's praises.

He claims it costs him less than two pence per mile to drive around while it charges overnight.

"If you're looking for an EV, this for me is pound for pound the best used electric vehicle on the market," he said in his review.

One car he compares the Mii to is the 2021 petrol Ford Fiesta which sells for upwards of £12,250, but Rogerson said the Mii is a much better deal, especially for those wanting an EV.

"EV's are typically more expensive on the used market. The fact we're getting it cheaper, getting price parity almost, well that's really good."

He says the Mii is also better than other comparable EVs, such as a Renault Zoe.

Most importantly, his wife likes the car and their family is now going to keep it as a permanent runaround.

"The efficiency is off the charts, it's well specced and for just over 10 grand I think we've got a bit of a bargain."

Rogerson said he went for the Mii was because he said it is £2,000 cheaper than identical cars which come off the same production line, like a Skoda and Volkswagon.

SEAT is owned by Volkswagon and is set to be rebranded as 'Cupra' in 2030.

"If you ever wanted evidence of badge snobbery here it is, but for me, for a car, just a runaround, a second car perhaps, this is the plum one."

There was only one fault on the Mii Rogerson bought, with the driver's heated seat not working likely because of a button fault.

He also had an issue getting an app to work that allowed him to view the car's charge remotely.

Rogerson's advice for buying a cheap car is to do your research on what's on the market and to be patient and watch sale prices before you make your move.

But, he also recommends haggling with dealers and knowing exactly what you want in a car.

The government recently delayed the petrol car ban to 2035 after hailing The Sun's Give Us A Brake campaign.
