Car expert reveals why you should never leave water bottles in your motor during the winter

A CAR expert has warned drivers why not to leave water bottles inside a car during winter.

The timely advice comes just days before the chilly season takes hold for the next several months.

Among CarCovers.com's long list of advice was instruction to remove water bottles from vehicles once the mercury starts to drop.

"As tempting as it may be to leave a water bottle in your vehicle for an icy cold drink, it only creates frost on the inside of your windows," the website read.

"To keep frost from forming on the inside of your windows, bring water bottles and other beverages indoors and avoid leaving them in your car."

Other pieces of car-related direction throughout winter included applying shaving cream to windows and keeping an extra pair of socks in the glove box.

Shaving cream contains many of the same ingredients as defoggers and can keep fog off windows, according to the website.

Socks can be used in emergencies for warmth and, when placed on wiper blades, to keep your windshield clean.
