A "STUPID" driver who thought he found a shortcut to dodge traffic has been slammed by fellow motorists.
The shameless orange Qashqai could be seen travelling at speed along a hard shoulder on a busy motorway which could have caused a major smash.

An outraged truck passenger who witnessed the illegal move shared a shocking clip on social media.
In a uploaded to TikTok, he captioned the post: "Stupid Qashqai driver thinks hard shoulder is a live lane and almost could have caused a crash.";
Laws surrounding using the hard shoulder can be confusing but if they are ignored motorists can be slapped with a hefty fine.
The Highway Code states: "You must not use a hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by police, traffic officers or a traffic sign"

This means that if you are planning to beat traffic by driving down the lane, you would be breaking the law.
If you were caught out taking the 'shortcut' you could be hit with a £100 fine and three points on your licence.
Hard shoulders are only supposed to used in emergency situations if your car brakes down.
In this case, it is legal to stop on one, but if they are used in non-emergencies such as taking a break from driving, or going to the toilet this could get you into trouble.

And, stopping on the hard shoulder can be extremely dangerous to you and other motorway drivers.
According to Highways England, over 100 are killed or injured every year while using them, so it should always be last resort.
But, if it is unavoidable in an emergency, the recommends parking to the far left of the road and putting your hazard lights on.
They also advise the driver and passengers to leave the car on the left-hand side while waiting for assistance.
Emergency vehicles can also use the lane to bypass traffic and get to the scene of an accident as quickly as possible.
Motorists sometimes use hard shoulder when roadworks instruct them do so, which is legal.
It comes as other silly drivers have been caught on camera causing chaos on the road.
