A MECHANIC with 55 years' of experience has said a car firm is making a mistake by changing a popular motor.

Car veteran Scotty Kilmer took to social media to warn drivers that Toyota has replaced V6 engines in its Highlander with a four-cylinder turbo engine.

Scotty claimed the change would mean the engine would need higher revolutions per minute to tow things.

The vehicle would therefore have worse miles to the gallon.

In a YouTube video, Scotty said: "I personally think Toyota is making a big mistake. People are towing boats and stuff with them.

"When you put these four-cylinder turbos in, you have to rev up higher with them.

"If you pull any kind of weight with a turbo four it's going to get horrible gas mileage compared to six which has more initial torque."

The Sun has approached Toyota for comment.
