The fuel control valve plunger may stick inside the high pressure fuel pump, causing over-pressurisation and loss of drive power.

The potential valve plunger defect, causing the vehicle to lose drive, ups the chances of a crash and injury.

Car owners will be notified by November 10, according to a recall acknowledgement letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Kia says its dealers will update the engine control unit software and also inspect and replace the fuel pump as necessary, free of charge.

The Sun has contacted Kia for comment.

It comes after drivers were given an urgent warning over a fire risk in more than 23 cars.

Hyundai and Kia announced the recall of over three million of their cars, with owners urged to park outdoors until they can be collected.

Nearly two dozen models made between 2010 and 2017 are affected by a problem with the anti-lock braking system.

The manufacturers explained that the ABS may leak fluid into the engine bay, possibly leading to a short circuit and electrical fires.

This is caused by an O-ring failing due to prolonged exposure to brake fluid.

They are now working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to make drivers aware and recover the cars.

Hyundai has said that it can fix the problem by replacing a fuse in the ABS module.

Kia is yet to issue any solution but it is likely to be similar.
