ELECTRIC vehicles may be the future of driving across the world but one expert has warned that diesel cars remain on top.

That's the opinion of Mat Watson from Carwow, who states that EV's are not even close to touching diesel vehicles in the present day.

EV's are expected to dominate our roads and motorways within the next decade but are already struggling to stamp their authority.

A lack of public charging points and their inconvenience when it comes to driving long journeys are just two of their well-documented issues.

This has knocked back their selling point and put many people off buying one as a result.

When asked for his opinion on electric cars on the , Mat said: "I like electric cars for certain situations.

"I think for a lot of people and how a lot of people drive, they're brilliant.

"The problem that I have is this government directive saying 'all cars have got tot be electric by x, y, z.'

"It's not necessarily the best way. If you're going to be doing long miles, diesel is still the way to go.

"People don't want diesel because of diesel gate and stuff like that but actually, depending on the application, a diesel car is the right thing."

Mat also believes that diesel cars are far easier to drive and navigate due to the way they are built.

And for that reason, he says EV's "can't touch" diesel cars.

"For general fun, like hooning a car about on a track, an electric car can't touch an internal combustion engine car.

"You can rev it out, they're generally lighter and you can play with the balance of the car.

"The skateboard design of an electric car, where it's low down and quite heavy, means they're not so good for that."

EV's do, of course, have plenty of positives and those can't be ignored.

They are better for the environment, are extremely quiet when in use and ideal for shorter journeys.

"For a lot of people who just like nipping to the shops and do an average commute, electric cars are brilliant," Mat said.

"You don't have to go to the petrol station if you've got a place you can charge it.

"But if you don't, then they are rubbish."
