Anti-ULEZ protesters damaged, destroyed or stole 795 ‘spycams’ in clean air zone
ANTI-Ulez protesters damaged, destroyed or stole 795 “spycams” in the controversial clean air zone.
Police revealed they have 200 reports of cameras swiped in London and 595 wrecked.
Some vans carrying the devices were daubed with graffiti, had tyres deflated or cameras covered.
It stopped transport chiefs identifying and fining vehicles not complying with the low emission zone — recently extended to the capital’s outer boroughs.
The 795 Ulez crimes were recorded from April to the end of September.
A 52-year-old man was arrested in Bexley, South London, on suspicion of criminal damage on September 22.
He was bailed pending enquiries. Two others were nicked.
One was charged but the other case was discontinued by prosecutors.
More than 11,000 people have joined a Facebook group urging people to locate the hated vans.
Drivers of non-compliant vehicles are charged £12.50 a day to drive in London.
Anti-Ulez activists set up a protest camp outside mayor Sadiq Khan’s home in Tooting, South London.
Transport for London insisted: “Anyone driving a non-compliant vehicle will be detected.”
