A CAR cleaning expert has revealed where horrid smells linger in your motor - and how to banish them for free.

Nooks and crannies loved by festering grot include the bottom of cup holders, ashtrays, gear sticks and handbrake gaiters.

Other culprits are door panels, centre consoles and dashboards, pros at reveal.

All can are hard to reach areas but you can combat this through a number of options.

Many cup holders will have rubber mats in the base, you can remove these to soak in water if they’re particularly grimy and it won't cost you a penny.

Some ashtrays are detachable, too, so do the same with them.

For everything else, a microfiber cloth and cleaning solution will suffice.

Spray your cleaning fluid straight onto the cloth and get to work.

But try to avoid the cleaner touching windows.

If that happens, wipe it off with a clean cloth or use a separate glass cleaner.
