I drove the UK’s slowest EV… here’s why electric vehicles will never replace normal cars
A MOTORING whizz who drove the UK's slowest EV has revealed why electric vehicles like it will never replace normal cars.
Christopher Sharp took the Citroen Ami up Swain's Lane, the steepest hill in London.
The Ami has a top speed of just 27.9mph and is technically a "light quadricycle" - not a car.
Expert Christopher took the sub-£9,000 motor up the 20-degree hill in the posh north London suburb of Hampstead.
As the Citroen climbed the slope, its speed plummeted from 20mph to a sputtering 12mph - and Christopher thought it might not make it to the top.
But the car powered through and made it to the crest of the hill in one piece.

Christopher was impressed by the Citroen's Tardis-like interior and simple layout.
Writing in the , he said: "Inside it is exceptional at creating canyons of room in a vehicle not much bigger than a Rubik's cube."
He later parked behind a bright orange Lamborghini Sterrato in ultra-glitzy Mayfair - and passers-by told him they'd rather own the Citroen than the supercar.
But Christopher said that the snail-paced EV will not replace normal cars anytime soon.

He said: "It is an expensive alternative to the train, the Tube, or the bus, someone’s third vehicle rather than their first.
"What this means is that the Ami won't replace someone's ordinary car.
"It won't be a car someone sells their SUV, hatchback, or estate car for.
"People will buy it because they have the spare income to afford it."
It comes after a Top Gear star and EV owner said the UK isn't ready for electric cars - as their batteries aren't fit for drivers.
