Top tips for saving money while filling up your car revealed – including easy way to keep more cash in your pocket
DRIVERS were stunned when they discovered how to save money while filling up their cars.
Petrol is the most expensive it's been since the start of the year - here's how you can keep more cash in your pocket.
The RAC revealed petrol has risen to 152.25p a litre and diesel is an eye-watering 154.37p.
But supermarket giants are now offering petrol station loyalty schemes to help customers collect points and see discounted fuel prices.
TESCO CLUBCARD
Tesco Clubcard members already see prices slashed in store, but points can also be collected at any of the supermarket's petrol stations.
The scheme offers one point for every two litres of fuel you buy and they are converted into vouchers.

It is free to sign up and means you can claim mega discounts on your food shop too.
Sainsbury's offers a similar scheme, but motorists are awarded one point for every litre while filling up at the forecourt.
One Nectar point is also collected for every £1 a member spends in store.
TEXACO
The points system is called Star Rewards and drivers can earn one point per litre of fuel.

This is worth 1p, and once members amass 500 points they get a £5 reward.
Motorists also have the option of turning their points into vouchers for M&S and Boots among others, thanks to the Love2Shop project.
Texaco also offers the chance to donate your reward to charity, and the company will match the value.
Members are automatically handed 200 points just for signing up and downloading the Texaco app.
They will receive double the amount of points for their first three fuel fill-ups.
If an app isn't practical, a card and key fob are available.
SHELL GO+
The Shell Go+ scheme works a little bit differently.
If customers spend £10 on fuel, or more than £2 in the store, they will be rewarded with discounts every ten visits.
Plus, if drivers opt for Shell V-Power fuel they will see £3 off every 300 litres they purchase.
Members can also enjoy 10 per cent off food and drinks, motor oil, and car wash.
ESSO
The Esso scheme runs in partnership with Tesco and Sainsbury's, and motorists are able to collect two Nectar points for every £1 spent at an Esso forecourt.
It also applies to any Esso shop and car wash service.
It works by scanning the app, or a Nectar card - drivers are entitled to 5p of each litre for every 300 Nectar points.
Members receive a whopping 500 points just for signing up.
Their website reads: "Your 2nd, 4th, and 6th refills will earn you two, four and six times the Nectar points respectively. Once you’ve hit your 8th refill, you’ll get a bonus 500 points on top.
"If you refill eight times while the offer is still running don’t worry, the offer will reset and start again once your offer period has ended."
BP
The reward scheme, BPme, provides two points per litre of Ultimate fuel, and one point for regular.
A point is also earned for every £1 spent in their shops.
Members are gifted £2.50 when they download the BPme app and register.

They will have to gain 25 "base points" before being able to redeem them and the website states 200 points are the equivalent to £1.
This means £200 needs to be spent before drivers see £1 off their fuel cost.
