Tesla unveils newest EV ‘Supercharger’ with plans anyone with electric car will be able to use it… but there’s a catch

TESLA has unveiled its newest EV Supercharger with plans for anyone with an electric car to be able to use them - but there's a catch.

Called the V4, the ultra-rapid public charging solution made its debut at the firm's flagship showroom in Tottenham, north London.

The company said the new charger had been "specifically designed to facilitate non-Tesla vehicles using the supercharging network".

The location also became the first station in the world where it is possible to pay for the service with a card.

It features a three-metre-long cable and prices are set at 50p per kWh.

The new V4 Supercharger outputs speeds of up to 250kW – the same as the outgoing V3 model.

However Elon Musk's company said the V4 was "future-proof" and that faster rates could be possible in the future.

Transport Minister Jesse Norman attended the official opening and said: "Electric vehicles are a key part of the UK's transition to a prosperous green economy.

"I am delighted that Tesla are investing in EV charging and infrastructure that will benefit all EV drivers through its new public rapid charging hub.

"The Government is making it easier than ever to own an electric vehicle, most recently by introducing new regulations to improve the ease of charging an EV, but it is private investment that will ultimately make the difference."

Tesla's existing UK network spans more than 1,100 Superchargers at some 115 locations and with a 99.5 per cent uptime.

It is unclear where the first Superchargers will be installed and when non-Tesla vehicles will be able to use them.

The V4 Supercharger was first launched in Europe in Harderwijk, the Netherlands, in March.

It comes as a Tesla owner revealed which car he believes is far better than the electric car.

Posting on TikTok under the username Will Lee, the motorist revealed exactly what he thought about the popular manufacturer.
