Extremely rare 1979 Ford Escort known as a ’70s legend’ hits auction for eye-watering price
AN extremely rare 1979 Ford Escort known as a "70s legend" has hit auction for an eye-watering price.
The red 1600 sport MK2 motor which "holds a legendary reputation across the globe" has been restored and is ready to find a new owner.
It was imported to the UK last year from the family who owned it in South Africa.
Currently based in Dublin, the car has had the same owner since it was bought brand new in 1974.
During its restoration the vehicle was given new shocks and springs, a new carburettor, a full new exhaust system, new gearbox & engine mountings, new brakes and new fuel lines.
It was also given an engine rebuild.

Despite the mechanical parts needing some work, the interior has remained the original.
It has since been put up for auction with a starting price of £7,000 - but bids are set to increase dramatically.
The description of the car reads: "The example offered today is a fantastic showcase of the model, greatly benefiting from an extensive ground-up restoration in 2020.
"As originality was a key focus for the current keeper, the process involved pinning and filling the original shell, retaining key original components wherever possible.

The auction, which can be viewed , ends on Tuesday.
