Inside Dacia’s new Spring EV commuter car that will cost £7 a day to run
MEET the commuter car that doesn’t go on strike.
This pure-electric Dacia Spring will cost around £7 A DAY when it arrives here next year – less than most train fares to get to work.
That’s my maths, by the way. Dacia has yet to crunch the numbers.
But what we do know is the 120-mile city car will have a sticker price somewhere between £16k-£19k, making it the most affordable new electric car by some distance.
Bosses are determined to keep finance payments below £200 a month with a similar low-cost deposit. Hence £7 a day.
Although it might end up even cheaper.

The dinky five-door Spring has been a big success across Europe with its 27kWh battery, decent 300-litre boot and 62mph top speed.
‘Bells and whistles’
We’ll be getting the as-yet-unseen updated version with styling tweaks and more equipment.
Dacia UK boss Luke Broad said: “Spring will fill a real gap in the market in terms of affordable, simple, easy-to-use, no-nonsense electric vehicles.
“There’s nothing else like it, they’re all £25k-plus with lots of technology, lots of bells and whistles, which is still unobtainable for a lot of people.

“Whereas with Spring we have a small car with a small battery and a medium-ish range.
“People don’t drive hundreds of thousands of miles in their EVs. They travel an average of 18 miles a day.
“So why would we put massive cost and a massive battery into that car when people aren’t using that range? Spring embodies everything that Dacia is all about.
“I’m pushing to make this car as affordable as possible and if that spits out under £200 a month then I’d be very happy with that number.”
As would we. Brilliant commuter car. Brilliant second car.
