Rare classic Mk2 Ford Escort rally car up for auction at eye-watering price
A RARE Classic MK2 Ford Escort rally car is up for auction at an eye-watering price.
The rally car in "build fresh" condition, with an extremely rare engine setup, has a guide price of £50,000 - £60,000.
Silverstone Auctions, who are handling the sale, claim that the Escort has 'never been used in anger' and has covered just 300 non-competitive miles or so since completion.
The car is painted in Ford Royal Blue with gold Revolution wheels, and only 20 of them were manufactured by Millington Engineering in conjunction with Colin McRae.
And the auction house believes this is the final example of the "McRae" series.
The car comes with a full set of new Toyo Proxes R888 tyres, fully-shaped 4mm Rally Mudflaps, bronze-tinted polycarbonate windows, a heated front screen, a fibreglass bonnet and DMT-style door mirrors.

Silverstone Auctions explained: "It was prepared for a customer who subsequently no longer required it and consequently still displays the relevant sponsorship decals.
"With a purposeful and superbly detailed interior equipped with an abundance of high-end parts and safety features, it's clear that this was a 'no expense spared' build resulting in a rare, functional and competitive, in the right hands, Mk2 Escort."
The Classic MK2 Ford Escort is powered by a 2.0L Millington Diamond (257bhp) with a stamped Colin McRae plate on the block.
Inside, the car features race technology DASH2 stack dash, carbon door cards and Sparco ADV seats with alloy mounts.
The auction house continues:"The finish is exemplary, both internally and externally, to the point where this particular Escort could easily compete on the show circuit.
"However, it is obviously not the intention, especially as it comes with an MSA Passport valid until November 22, 2027."
