Motoring experts at have revealed the most common driving offences that led to bans and the UK regions with the highest number of disqualified drivers in 2021.

Shockingly, more than 140,000 drivers were disqualified in 2021.

In 2021, 45,632 drivers lost their licences as a result of having more than 12 points in the "totting up" process, which was more than any other offence.

The second most common offence in 2021 was driving or attempting to drive with an alcohol level above the limit.

This led to 34,969 drivers losing their licence.

Some 27,267 drivers received a ban under DG10 in 2021 for driving or attempting to drive with a drug level above the specified limit.

The fourth most common driving offence leading to bans was driving while disqualified by order of the court.

More than 8,000 motorists lost their driving licence for driving or attempting to drive but failed to supply a specimen for analysis.

The research also revealed that 5,976 drivers lost their licences for dangerous driving.

During 2021, Yorkshire and Humber recorded 18,675 disqualified drivers, which is the highest figure in the UK.

This is followed by North West England with 18,511 disqualified drivers.

London witnessed the third-highest number of banned drivers in 2021, with a total of 18,468 individuals receiving bans.

Research carried out by Motorcycling Outfitters revealed that Kent is one of the most dangerous regions for drivers.

The South East of England witnessed 16,244 drivers facing a ban in 2021.

However, South West Scotland recorded only 206 disqualified drivers.
