At least four of the I-PACE motors, which cost from £65,000, were destroyed when the blaze broke out on a transporter.

Traffic was halted on the southbound M1 near Trowell Services, Notts — and northbound when smoke blew across the road.

Both carriageways were reopened around six hours after the fire started at 1.50pm.

Firefighters said the cause of Monday’s blaze was under investigation.
