A pick-up truck had to lift up the car to remove it while highway maintenance workers cleared the scene.

Pictures show the sleek black sports car with its front bumper in tatters and the front left wheel missing.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance and for dangerous driving. He was released pending investigation.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries in the collision but neither required hospital treatment.

A highway maintenance van also came along to clear up the debris in Central London.

The black 600LT was first registered five years ago and was taxed earlier this month.

Designers re-engineered the car to be faster, lighter, more agile and more exciting than previous models.

The sports car also comes with a 3.8-litre V8 engine and 562 horsepower.

Its rivals include the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante and the Ferrari 488 GTB.

But due to it being such a low weight, it comes with no air conditioning or stereo player.

McLaren says its key attributes are reduced weight, optimised aero, more power, track-focused dynamics, driver engagement and exclusivity.
