Areas with the most ACTIVE speed cameras in Britain revealed – is yours on the list?
SPEED cameras are regarded as a necessary evil among motorists, but are a vital piece of kit to ensure safety for all road users.
Speeding is unsurprisingly the most common driving offence in the UK - so where are Brits being caught out most?

Technology is now so advanced a camera can take detailed images and video of drivers from up to one kilometre away.
Most cameras use markings on the road to measure the distance your vehicle has travelled over time and calculate your speed.
But whether your driving down your usual route or navigating along roads you don't know, you need to watch your pace.
Research conducted by found that the most active speed cameras in the UK are in West Yorkshire.

They submitted Freedom of Information requests to police forces across the country to work out where drivers were being caught out the most.
The area topped the bill with a whopping 1,005,830 activations since January 2019, which is an average rate of 848 flashes each day.
It seems Brits put pedal to the metal when driving down the country lanes, as on average 35 drivers per hour are stung.
And if each of those activations led to prosecutions at the minimum fine amount of £100 each, it would tally up to a mammoth amount of £10,058,3000.

West Yorkshire Police have clearly had their work cut out for them keeping an eye on motorists not abiding by speeding rules.
With the likes of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, and Wakefield in the area, they earned the title of the most active speed cameras in Britain.
But the capital follows closely behind with 789,621 speed camera activations since the start of 2019.
They flashed on average a devilish 666 times per day, or 27 flashes per hour.
Completing the troublesome top three was Sussex, but with a significant drop down to 272,245 total activations, with an average of 229 flashes per day or 9 per hour.
But on the other end of the scale, drivers in Derbyshire had the least number of speed camera of activations from 2019 to March 2022.

The diligent motorists only set the flashes off 34,177 times, averaging out at just 28 flashes a day and 1.2 flashes an hour.
Brits behind the wheel in Merseyside were also keen to stick to the speed limit, racking up just 34,6222 flashes in over three years.
This totalled up to 29 flashes per day and 1.2 flashes an hour.
Rounding out the top three for the areas with the least speed camera activations was Cleveland in the northeast of England, where there were only 37,795 activations in total.
In terms of individual speed cameras that catch Brits with a need for speed, a monitor on the M25 between Junction 7 and 16 in Surrey that had the most activations since the start of 2019.
It stung a total of 75,803 cars for breaking the speed limit, which averages out at a massive 63 per day and 2.6 per hour.
Will Bullen, an automotive expert at added: "While speeding continues to be the biggest offender when it comes to driving fines, it's important to remember to stick to the speed limit and avoid dangerous driving that could cause harm to yourself and other road users.

"The highway code states that a speeding fine is £1,000, which rises to £2,500 for motorway offences, as well as that you could receive 3-6 points on your licence.
"Before you travel make sure you know the route you wish to travel on or research it before you go on a trip, and leave yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination to avoid having to speed up and get caught by a camera."
