EVEN if you aren’t ready to jump ship and go electric just yet, we bet current fuel prices have at least got you more interested in EVs.

Electric cars are are still more expensive than petrol or diesel cars on average when bought new, but used examples can often be cheaper.

The people at have come up with the electric cars that have depreciated the fastest.

They analysed the price of popular models of new EVs and compared them against the average price of a 2019 version purchased second-hand.

Duncan McClure Fisher, CEO at MotorEasy said: “Buying a new car at the moment is quite a challenge, thanks to waiting lists and inflated prices.

“If you’re happy buying used, a car two or three years old can save you a fortune.”

But MotorEasy pointed out that buying used does come with some drawbacks.

McClure went on: “Remember that a (used) car will likely fall outside of its manufacturer warranty period if it is older than 3-years.

“If this is the case, we would recommend purchasing an extended warranty to protect yourself against unexpected expensive repairs.”

With that in mind, here are the five fastest depreciating EVs and in turn some of the best used EV bargains around right now.

Kia Soul EV

The Kia soul is hugely popular with young people in the US

Taking the top spot on the list is the Kia Soul which lost 49% of its value in 2022 compared to the 2019 version.

The small SUV saw the most severe drop in price, losing on average £17,851.

Its 280-mile range is impressive for its size and price and the Soul’s quirky looks will turn heads.

Renault Zoe

A great range and keen price make the Renault Zoe a superb used EV

Next up is the Renault Zoe, which MotorEasy reckons has dropped around £10,000 in value since 2019 – or 39%.

That means the average used example from 2019 costs £15,756.

The Zoe’s range of around 250 miles is brilliant for a small car and its punchy acceleration and dinky dimensions make it great around town.

Jaguar I-Pace

Fast, great to drive and luxurious, the I-Pace is a dream motor for most

Dropping around 35% of its original £65,620 value leaves used 2019 Jaguar I-Paces at around £42,500.

That’s still way out of reach for most people, but does represent a healthy saving on an EV that’s genuinely luxurious inside and brilliant to drive with a healthy 295-mile range.

Smart ForTwo EQ

The Smart ForTwo is the perfect urban motor, as long as you only need two seats

Smart’s tiny ForTwo is one of the best cars for urban driving there is – especially if you go for the EQ electric version.

It costs £22,775 in 2019 but now, after a 35% drop with depreciation costs around £14,700 today.

Its modest range of around 60 miles isn’t much, but when was the last time you drove 60 miles around town?

Hyundai Ioniq Electric

The Ioniq is a comfy car with a keen price and there are plenty of used examples about

This isn’t the jaw-droppingly good looking Hyundai Ioniq 5 launched more recently, but the older Ioniq is still a great EV.

It actually came an EV a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, but all are comfy and easy to drive with decent interior space for five people. The Electrics 124-mile range covers most peoples’ urban requirements.

Today you can pick an Ioniq Electric for 33% less than when new, with used examples costing around £22,645.
