I was slapped with £65 fine for parking in VERY confusing street – can YOU see why I was fooled?

A SECURITY guard was livid after being handed a £65 fine for parking on a road where the yellow lines are barely visible and there is no signage.

Furious Frank Georg Mensah discovered his red Nissan had been slapped with the penalty after a Sunday out with friends.

Frank, who is in his mid-60s, said he triple checked the area and the double yellows on Somerleyton Road in Brixton, south London, seemed to stop at what he was sure was a parking bay.

There was also just a single signpost on the other side of the street stating the restricted hours were 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.

Frank, who was adamant he was safe, said: “It is so misleading.

“The lines are so faded and there are no signposts on that side of the road.

“On the left there is a pay and display sign that says the restricted hours, but on the right there is nothing.

“I parked on the right and did not pay as the lines looked like they stopped, there was a bay, and it was a Sunday.

“But we all got tickets. I was shocked, so mad.

“I have made a few mistakes in the past so I always make sure to check the signs and I was sure I would be OK.”

Frank immediately tried to fight the March 27 penalty, which rises to £100 if left unpaid, but his appeal was rejected.

He now wants Lambeth Council, which issued the parking fine, to repaint the road and erect a clear sign so other motorists don’t get caught out.

“I think it’s unfair,” Frank, who described driving as his “passion”, said.

“I’m doing this all in the name of justice and fairness.”

A spokesperson for Lambeth Council said: “We will further investigate the concerns raised and take any necessary action.”
