Britain’s WORST drivers have been revealed – is your town on the list?

WE'VE all seen some pretty shocking driving out on the road, but now Britain's worst drivers have been confirmed.

Based on 17 million car insurance enquiries in 2021, where the main driver reported a claim within the last five years, the results are broken down by town.

The study, conducted by , found that the London Borough of Sutton has the worst drivers in the UK for the second year running.

Some 19% of drivers in Sutton have made an insurance claim on its records over the past five year.

Next up are Croydon, Hemel Hempstead, Huddersfield, Slough, Enfield, Romford, Stevenage, Birmingham and Dartford, all with 18% of drivers making a claim.

Meanwhile, the best drivers are to be found in Shrewsbury.

Here, just 9% of driver's had reported claims made in the past five years.

Inverness came in second with 10% after being awarded the UK's safest drivers by MoneySuperMarket last year.

Dorchester, Belfast, Hereford and Llandudno weren't far behind with 11% of drivers.

Ipswich, Taunton, Torquay and Aberdeen made up the rest of the top 10 with 12%

The results also found that 17 to 19 year-olds are the least likely to have an accident.

MoneySuperMarket says 4% of the youngest motorists had made a claim as a main driver.

This seems strange until you realise these drivers haven't been on the road very long, hence having the smallest window of time to have an accident.

This is backed up by the fact that motorists aged 20 to 24 are most likely to have made an accident claim since 2016.

In fact, 17% of this age group did according to the results.

Sara Newell, car insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket said: "As you might expect, our research finds that drivers in built up, urban areas are more likely to have a main driver's accident claim than those based in more rural or remote areas.

"Whether you live in a busy city or have a history of accidents – or both – the best way to save on your car insurance is not to let your policy automatically renew and to shop around for a cheaper deal – doing so could save you up to £3,012."
