Some places do operate Sunday rules when parking is often cheaper or even free.

A number of London councils do allow drivers to park in bays which would usually need to be paid for on bank holidays.

Even more unpredictable are private car parks with many having issues with signage or clarity on rules.

Whether the parking bays are private or council run, there should be signs close by to inform you about when you can park there and if there is a cost.

If you are unsure of the rules where you have parked, it's best to assume that normal rules apply and pay for your parking.

Paying for parking when you don't need to is better than receiving a hefty fine for not following the rules.

Which parking restrictions are in operation on bank holidays?

Rules once again vary from place to place so if you are going anywhere on a bank holiday, check parking before you go.

Most parking restrictions are still in place such as no blocking entrances and no parking in blue badge bays.

Instructions on signs next to single yellow lines should still be adhered to on bank holidays.

Treat the bank holiday as a normal day unless signs are telling you rules are different.

Always check with the signage around if you are unsure, as traffic wardens are likely to be around.

It is safer to be overly cautious and park as normal than risk your bank holiday being ruined with a fine.

Which parking restrictions are NOT in operation on public/bank holidays?

In a few areas, such as Westminster in London, parking on yellow lines is allowed on bank holidays.

Resident permit holder spaces can also be used on bank holidays if the sign specifies times of operation for the bay.
