Owner Fredy Zurbrügg, 80, was a chef when he was approached by production manager Hubert Fröhlich.

He wanted Zurbrügg to work on the sixth Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which was partly filmed in Switzerland.

Impressed with his work, Mr Fröhlich approached Fredy to cook for the cast and crew of his next production, Le Mans.

Fredy brought his own kitchen with him - and was soon catering for 800 people.

This was including McQueen himself, for whom he invented a special dish - the "Steve Steak".

Fredy said the actor asked him to "choose one" of the famous petrolhead's personal fleet once production was over.

He had the choice of a Porsche 911, a Mercedes Pagoda SL or the Jaguar - and he picked the latter.

SMOOTH RIDE

Fredy said: "I decided on the silver Jaguar, a convertible E-Type Series II with only 600 miles on the speedo.

"It was a US version because it was supposed to be shipped back to America."

The Jaguar has been used sparingly over the last 52 years - and has only 46,000 miles on the clock.

Fredy said he "had no idea he owned something so valuable" - but is ready for it to be enjoyed by someone else.
