Electric car voted worst motor ever as 10 awful bangers named by experts
AN electric car with the "performance of a sleepy vole" has been branded the worst motor ever by experts.
The Reva G-Wiz had “the structural integrity of your slippers”, added AutoExpress.
The 8ft banger, made in India from 2001 to 12, pipped the Austin Allegro, the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the Reliant Robin.
The "worst car ever made" list includes some familiar horrors from the 70s and 80s, such as the Morris Marina, Rover CityRover, Delboy's Robin Reliant and a convertible version of the popular Nissan Micra.
Some of the cars have become associated with poor quality and bad design in retrospect while others, the magazine said, were clearly "dreadful from the start."
Many were from the 1970s when workforces were often on strike. Early Skodas were too good to make the list.
The G-Wiz, a forerunner for the electric cars now selling in record numbers, was the worst of the lot with Auto Express declaring the term "car" as being generous.
It said: "The Indian-built G-Wiz electric car actually qualifies as a quadricycle in the UK, so you can drive it if you've only passed your motorcycle test and you can get behind the wheel from 16 years of age, too.
"Unfortunately, the G-Wiz will earn you zero street cred when compared to anything you can ride on two wheels.
"The bug-eyed front end and tall, flat panes of window glass make it look awkward, while the variety of crooked shut lines on every model and mismatching paint finishes meant no two cars left the factory looking the same.!
The reviewers added that a gap between the bodywork and doors let the rain the in.
And while manufacturer Reva claimed there was enough room for two adults and two kids, the experts said passengers would be packed in like sardines.
The extra weight would also likely succumb to the challenge of hauling extra weight.
Volvo has pledged to sell only electric cars by 2030 — and to switch all sales to online.
