The electric cars coming soon to a charging point near you (if there is one)
SOMETIMES I think I should set up keyboard shortcuts for this job.
F1 for “compact crossover”, F2 for “electric vehicle”, F3 for “VW Group”, F4 for “MEB modular electrification platform” and so on. Take all the cars you see here. They are all F2s from F3 using its F4, while all but one is an F1.
Why the Ford badge? Because Ford has signed a deal with F3 to share its F4 for an F2/F1 coming in 2023.
Still with me? I hope so. VW starts taking orders for the Golf-sized ID 3 hatchback next week and we’ll see the ID 4 crossover later this year.
Sister brand Audi will use the same innards for the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron coming in 2021, as will Skoda for the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe and Cupra for the el-Born. I have driven an Enyaq prototype and it’s very impressive.
People will buy a Q4 just from the picture. And that’s just the start. F3 has already confirmed its F4 will continue to blossom and underpin many more cars in the future.
We’ll see ID Buzz in 2022, the electric equivalent of the Transporter van and California camper, as well as an emission-free saloon, estate and seven-seat SUV.
Ah, yes. “Emission-free.” I’ll make that F12.
