The towns where you are most likely to overturn a parking ticket – and how to challenge your fine
MILLIONS of Brits are hit with parking fines every year, often for innocent mistakes or overstaying their ticket by a few minutes.
But many drivers are now starting take a stand against parking penalties by challenging them with local councils.
Freedom of Information data obtained by AMT revealed the areas where you're most likely to successfully appeal a parking ticket.
Topping the list is Newcastle City Council, which has a overturn success rate of 66 per cent.
Drivers in the region appealed almost 20,000 parking infringements over a 12-month period, with almost 13,000 of these tickets successfully appealed.
Motorists in Liverpool are also likely to be given an unfair parking fine, with 63 per cent successfully appealed.
It was followed by Cardiff, where 7,328 out of the 66,621 tickets were overturned.
Other regions with a higher percentage of successful appeals include Bristol (54 per cent), Leeds (51 per cent), London (49 per cent) and Sheffield (30 per cent).
Meanwhile, Norwich motorists have the smallest chance of getting a fine changed, with just 579 of its 26,539 tickets overturned.
Unsurprisingly, Londoners received the most penalty charge notices, with a staggering 3.6million issued in 2018.
If you have received a parking ticket and you want to challenge it, hold from paying it immediately.
It is also important to check how long you have to challenge the ticket, with many councils giving drivers two weeks to write to them with an appeal.

Make sure to include as much supporting evidence as possible in your submission, such as photo evidence of your ticket and nearby street signs.
You can also challenge the penalty with an independent appeal body, depending if the ticket issuer is a member of the body.
If this is unsuccessful, you must pay your parking ticket before further costs are added.
