Cabbie investigated after taking fares with licence plate which threatens to ‘KII UBR’
A CABBIE is being investigated after taking fares with a licence plate which threatens to “Kill Uber”.
Pedestrians were left shocked after spotting the private plate “KII UBR” outside the Savoy Hotel in central London.
Transport for London, which licences taxis in the capital, have launched an urgent investigation into the incident.
Uber drivers have reacted with outrage at the provocative registration, which has been interpreted as saying “Kill Uber”.
Kara Attila, an Uber driver, said: “They blame us for stealing their jobs.
“But is not our choice, customers have decided that it is much more convenient to use 21st century technology.
“They like ordering cabs straight to their door, pub or office.
“Now it’s time to either adapt, evolve or you are not going to survive.”
Usually, any licence plates that could be deemed slightly offensive appears are banned to prevent cheeky drivers from causing a stir on Britain’s roads.
Farhan Khalid, who has been a minicab driver for 25 years, said: “I find it a bit sad someone would go out of their way like this.
“If someone has it in them to go out of their way to go buy a number plate like this, I think they really need to step back and reflect on what’s important in their life.
“This hate for Uber is clearly completely overpowering and consuming their life.”
Cabbies have been involved in a long running battle with Uber, as they believe the tech company has lost them potential earnings.
Uber has currently lost its licence in London, but can still accept passengers while it appeals the decision.
The Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association declined to comment.
