Supercharged Aston Martin convertible owned by Prince Charles sells for £240,000 at auction
AN ASTON Martin convertible that was once owned by Prince Charles has sold for almost £240,000.
The 1994 Virage Volante attracted plenty of interest when it went under the hammer last week.
The classy motor was leased to the Prince of Wales by the British automaker when it was released until 2008.
The green supercar was even upgraded from a 5.2-litre engine to a 6.3-litre upon Charles' request, helping it reach a top speed of 175mph.
It was also fitted with a police radio and a second rear-view mirror for additional security measures, which is still installed in the car.
The convertible also features a leather-trimmed container in the centre armrest which was used by the future King to hold sugar cubes for feeding polo ponies.
The impressive two-door has a racing green body, a folding roof and has been kept in pristine condition.
Despite being a favourite of Charles, it has only 34,000 miles on the clock.
Prince Charles has had a longtime fascination with Jaguars ever since the Queen gifted him a Mark II Volante for his 21st birthday.
The Royal converted his model in 2008 to run on bioethanol fuel called E85, which can be derived from white wine and then mixed with a small amount of petrol.

Earlier this year, we revealed The Queen's Daimler Double Six saloon sold for £80,000 at auction.
The vintage car had a rear seat specifically designed so her pet corgis can sit in comfort.
