The most expensive train station car parks where drivers are stung for up to £40 a day

THE most expensive train station car parks across the UK have been revealed.

And it's bad news if you're leaving your motor in Reading, with drivers forking out a staggering £25 a day for a parking ticket.

As annual rail fares are expected to increase by more than £100 a year, drivers are being hit with huge fees to leave their motor in a secure car park.

A recent breakdown by revealed Brits spend £25 a day when leaving their vehicle in the Reading train station car park, the most expensive outside of London.

Commuters who use this car park face spending £5,625 each year on parking, based on the average working calendar.

Apcoa Parking, who operates the Reading Station, thankfully offers an annual parking ticket for £1,850 - providing drivers with a yearly saving of £3,775.

Glasgow and Edinburgh stations are some of the most expensive places to leave your car, with drivers charged £24 and £22 a day respectively.

Motorists using the Manchester Piccadilly car park are forced to spend a £21 a day, while Sheffield commuters are charged £19.

Liverpool Lime Street, York, Newcastle and Peterborough are pricey places to leave your vehicle, with Brits spending between £18.70 and £15 a day for parking.

But not all railway stations are making drivers spend big on parking, with Selly Oak in the West Midlands and Kirkby in Merseyside offering free parking.

Unsurprisingly, popular London train stations are expensive places to leave your motor, with the car park at Kings Cross and St Pancras costing a whopping £40.

Waterloo, Victoria, Paddington and Kensington Olympia are also costly to park in, all costing £30 for a daily ticket.
