Dad spends £15,000 converting a hearse from eBay into a Ghostbusters car
A BRITISH father has spent £15,000 converting a former hearse into a Ghostbusters car.
Ross Wainwright, of Norwich, bought the 1984 Buick Le Sabre for £5,000 after he saw it advertised on eBay.
The dad-of-two planned to convert the funeral car into an exact replica of the motor in the 1984 classic over a year.
But after being flooded with requests to hire out the car for weddings and birthdays, he was able to completely strip, repaint and fit the hearse in just four months.
Along with his wife Kim, the pair spent more than 200 hours working on the car – often until 11pm at night.
And it hasn’t been a cheap exercise, with the overall conversion costing £15,000.
Ross said: “It all started after we’d been watching the Ghostbusters reboot as a family and then the next day I spotted this black America hearse on eBay.
“I said to my wife ‘that could be made into a Ghostbusters car’. She wasn’t sure about it because she knew how much work would need to be put into it.
“But I’ve always had a love of cars – I’m crazy about them. And I’m a huge fan of Ghostbusters so this combined those two things nicely.
“I’m extremely happy with how the limousine has turned out. It’s exceeded my expectations.”
The couple now use the wacky motor as a limousine for charity events, weddings and birthdays.
“The girls absolutely love it. When we first started converting the hearse, they asked if we’d be able to do a school run in the Ghostbusters car when it was finished.
“When we finally did it, the car got so much attention.”
It’s not the first time an old-school movie motor has been recreated for the road.
A Dutch inventor has built an exact replica of the Back To The Future DeLorean which can be driven using a remote control.
