NATWEST'S website is down for the SECOND day running leaving customers locked out of accounts and others unable to submit claims for mis-sold PPI.

The outage comes at the worse time possible with the deadline to reclaim mis-sold PPI falling at 11.59pm tomorrow.

In a statement posted to NatWest's Twitter account this morning it wrote: "Our website is currently unavailable. We're working hard getting it back up and running for you.

"Online Banking and our mobile app are still working. Sorry if this is causing you problems - we’ll post an update when we have more information."

RBS, which is part of the NatWest group, is unaffected, although it too was hit by yesterday's outage.

Coutts and Ulster Bank, which are also part of the banking group, are also unaffected - and they weren't hit yesterday either.

According to website DownDetector there were 328 reports of problems with NatWest this morning.

The most reported issues are with online banking (89 per cent) and with the website (9 per cent).

Problems seem to be UK-wide with the majority reported in London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Stoke-on-Trent, and Leicester.

But former and current customers are worried that the outage means PPI claims won't get submitted on time.

One concerned customer tweeted this morning: "Is there a way to check a last minute PPI claim was registered properly?

"The recent instability is a concern and unlike other providers, you don't offer an option to download the details on submission as proof."

Another wrote: "Trying to check if I ever had PPI with @NatWest_Help - call centre refused to put me through as the team were too busy, asked me to do it online but when I said the website didn't work she hung up on me. Worst bank in the world, really hope I get a payout off you lot now."

Someone else added: "PPI complaint, I understand that it’s a busy time considering that the deadline is tomorrow but surely this should be accessible today?"

And another commented: "Hi @NatWest_Help every time I get through the phone is put down. Is there an online form regarding my PPI complaint I can do instead?

"As the server is down can I get one from the actual bank?"

NatWest says customers can still submit complaints over the phone, although some have reported problems doing this.

You can also find the PPI complaints form via this , which you can fill in online or print off and take in branch or post.

A NatWest spokesperson told The Sun: “We are aware that some customers are still experiencing issues accessing our NatWest homepage.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and we are working hard to fix this.

"Customers can still access their online banking through , they can use their mobile app, ATMs, telephone banking, or visit their local branch.”

But NatWest isn't the only bank to experience technical glitches. TSB customers were locked out of accounts earlier this month after online and mobile banking went down.

NatWest now uses artificial intelligence to allow customers to open an account using a selfie - so you don't even have to go in branch.
