Lidl shoppers can’t pay on card after ‘nationwide technical issue’ – but problem should now be fixed
LIDL shoppers struggled to pay on card this morning after a "nationwide technical issue" with its payment system.
The discount retailer wrote on social media that it was experiencing problems processing card payments, adding that it was "working hard" to resolve the issue.
It wrote: "Due to a nationwide technical issue, our stores are currently experiencing difficulties processing some card payments.
"We’re working hard to get this fixed as soon as possible and will update you when it has been resolved.
"Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."
Lidl has since said that the "majority of payments are now going through" - but if you're planning to go shopping you might be best taking cash with you just in case.
The retailer also points out that anyone affected by the outage should contact their local store if they need help or assistance.
In a follow-up statement on social media the retailer wrote: "We are pleased to confirm that the majority of payments are now going through, however please speak to your local store team directly if you have any queries."
A spokesperson for Lidl told The Sun: "We were made aware of a technical issue, which was affecting the processing of some card payments for a short period this morning.
"We're pleased to confirm that the majority of card payments are now going through as normal and apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused."
Shoppers are not happy about the outage though. One Facebook user wrote: "What's the point in going in to ask when you can save time and go straight to a shop that the transactions will go through."
Another wrote: "Again these tills have been a nightmare."
While someone else said: "It's a good job cash has not been scrapped has was intended."
