"We’re working hard to get this fixed as soon as possible and will update you when it has been resolved.

";Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."

Lidl has since said that the "majority of payments are now going through" - but if you're planning to go shopping you might be best taking cash with you just in case.

"We're pleased to confirm that the majority of card payments are now going through as normal and apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

Shoppers are not happy about the outage though. One Facebook user wrote: "What's the point in going in to ask when you can save time and go straight to a shop that the transactions will go through."

Another wrote: "Again these tills have been a nightmare."

While someone else said: "It's a good job cash has not been scrapped has was intended."
