PRICE DROP

Sainsbury’s slashes 150 prices including beer, burgers and sausages – but is it cheapest?

SAINSBURY’S has cut prices on 125 summer food favourite, including pork sausages, beef burgers and Fosters’ beer.

It brings down the cost of a barbecue by nearly 16 per cent just in time for this weekend’s heatwave.

We compared grocery items for a barbecue this weekend to see where you could get them the cheapest

Some of the discounts are significant.

For example a 2-litre bottle of Cola Zero has dropped 30 per cent in price from 65p to 45p making Sainsbury’s the cheapest supermarket to buy the refreshing drink online.

Likewise, an eight-pack of pork sausages has been reduced by 25 per cent from £1.75 to £1.30.

But just because Sainsbury’s has slashed prices doesn’t make it cheapest.

And Sainsbury’s only came out cheapest for two of the six products we looked at.

Other discounts were also less than impressive.

Sainsbury’s reduced the cost of Heinz ketchup from £1.90 to £1.80 – a saving of only five per cent.

And even after the drop, Heinz ketchup is cheaper at Morrisons which prices the barbecue essential at £1.50.

Similarly, Butcher’s choice four quarter pounder burgers dropped from £2.75 to £2.50 – a measly nine per cent saving.

Aldi is the one to go to for this barbecue staple – the supermarket sells four beef burgers for a more impressive £1.29.
