A former rundown water tower which featured on George Clarke’s The Restoration man is now up for sale but with a £1.75million price tag attached.

High Legh Water Tower, in Knutsford, Cheshire, was built in 1938 to improve the water supply to the area until it was decommissioned in 2007.

The 85ft tall tower subsequently fell into disrepair before it was spotted by property developer Andrew Jones while playing a round of golf nearby.

He fell in love with the historic building and purchased it in 2013, restoring it into a family home with his wife Michele.

The three year project, which cost almost £700,000, featured on Channel 4's Restoration Man starring George Clarke.

The six storey home has four bedrooms, two en suite bathrooms, an entrance hall, a kitchen, a lounge/dining room, a study and a conservatory.

The bedrooms are on the third, fourth and fifth floors, with the top floor an entertaining area with a viewing deck offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

There is a lift which goes right up to the top floor, although the fitness minded can navigate its 99 stairs.

The couple have reluctantly decided to sell the property as their two children have moved out and they feel it is too big for just the two of them.

It is listed with estate agent Fisher German, of Knutsford, Cheshire via OnTheMarket.com.

Owner Andrew Jones, 55, said: "We bought the house six years ago as a concrete tube and turned it into a functional family home. Restoring it was a great experience.

"It's the most beautiful building which was built in 1938 and it's in a very nice area.

"It's been a wonderful place to live but the children have now gone and there's just my wife and I on six floors within 4,500 feet.

"Perhaps living here has reduced family arguments because we all had a floor each so you don't really see anyone else's untidiness!"

The agents handling the sale said the unusual property would make a 'unique' family home for any potential buyer.

Rod Waldron, of Fisher German, said: "It is the perfect blend of unique design and contemporary family living.

"The property features a bespoke lift, a stunning entertaining lounge providing panoramic views and is set within beautiful private gardens."

Vikki Bennett, spokesperson at OnTheMarket.com, added: "Spread over six floors with beautiful views across the countryside and expertly finished throughout, the water tower would be a unique place to live but also an enjoyable family home."
