McDonald’s to launch hipster bacon buttie to compete with rival KFC’s successful bacon burger

MCDONALDS are preparing to launch an updated version of their bacon roll as the breakfast arms race continues.

Their breakfast bun overhaul comes in the wake of KFC’s bacon burgers huge success.

McDonald’s new porker comes with a sourdough bun, flour topping and three rashes of crispy bacon.

The option gives customers an extra rasher of bacon but still remains one of the fast food chain’s healthiest options.

A tradesmen taste test found that it’s the top rate high street bacon bap for flavour, look and price.

Checkatrade’s survey put the £2.79 revamped bun on the street against Greggs and Costa Coffee when it squeaked it’s way to the top spot.

The pork delight is freshly prepared for each customer and made up to order to ensure the bacon is crisp.

The Sun can confirm after trying the bap that the rashers give it the perfect bacon to bread ratio.

While their new cooking method in the ovens gets rid of that wet fat that you often get when buying a bacon bap on the high street.

Four out of five breakfasts bought are bacon rolls with their sales up by three per cent last year.

It comes as part of the summer menu for the fast food retailer and will be available across all stores from Wednesday June 26 on their breakfast menu until 11am.

Duncan Cruttenden, Food Development Director at McDonald’s UK&I, said: “The bacon roll is the breakfast choice for millions and I am delighted to launch our new and improved version to customers.

“The Checkatrade feedback speaks for itself, and whether you’re a ketchup or a brown sauce person, I hope our customers agree that this Bacon Roll is a great addition to our breakfast menu.”
